Quotients up to a Four-Digit Dividend by a Two-Digit Divisor

T.I.P.S.

Lightbulb

Students must be able to use a variety of strategies and the standard algorithm to proficiently solve for quotients of up to a four-digit dividend by a two-digit divisor. This is extending to an additional dividend and a divisor from fourth grade where students divided three-digit dividends by a one-digit divisor.

Example

Marco rides his bicycle on a competitive cycling team. Their next race will cover 2,534 miles over 14 days. On average, how many miles will Marco ride each day? Use at least one strategy that will support your use of the standard division algorithm.

TEKS

Supporting Standard 5.3 Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to develop and use strategies and methods for positive rational number computations in order to solve problems with efficiency and accuracy. The student is expected to: (C) solve with proficiency for quotients of up to a four-digit dividend by a two-digit divisor using strategies and the standard algorithm
