Balancing a Simple Budget

T.I.P.S.

Lightbulb

Students must be able to balance a simple budget including deposits, expenses, savings, and balances.

Example

Roderick is determined to build a budget of $800.00 that will cover his expenses every month. He can’t afford to live by himself, so he and his brother will share an apartment. Some expenses are fixed such as rent which is always $400, while others vary month to month such as electricity, groceries, gas, and water. a)  Design a budget for Roderick using typical forms of income and expenses. b)  Balance the month’s budget by identifying specific amounts of money in those categories.
