Solving Problems Using Data

Lightbulb
Students must be able to use data from a frequency table, dot plot, or stem-and-leaf plot to solve one-and two-step problems involving any of the four operations as well as involving whole numbers, fractions, or decimals.

Example

In 2013, Yu Darvish started 32 games as pitcher for the Texas Rangers. Use the dot plot or stem-and-leaf plot to answer the following question.
Dot plot showing innings pitched
In which inning did Darvish pitch 2 more than 3 times as many games as he did in the 5th inning?

Supporting Standard  4.9 Data analysis. The student applies mathematical process standards to solve problems by collecting, organizing, displaying, and interpreting data. The student is expected to: (B) solve one- and two-step problems using data in whole number, decimal, and fraction form in a frequency table, dot plot, or stem-and-leaf plot
