Solving Problems Related to Perimeter & Area

T.I.P.S.

Lightbulb

Students must be able to solve word problems that involve perimeter and area of rectangles.

Example

Beck’s family is adding an L-shaped room to their house, as illustrated below (not drawn to scale). They plan to have crown molding all around the top of the walls, and cover the floor with ceramic tile. How many feet of crown molding will they need? How many square feet of tile will they need? Use the diagram to support and explain your thinking.
