Students must be able to add and subtract whole numbers and decimals to the hundredths place. They must be able to do so using the standard rules for addition and subtraction, which include the idea of regrouping.

Example

Pecos County covers 4,763.9 square miles. Somervell County covers 186.5 square miles, and Tom Green County covers 1,522 square miles. How many more square miles are covered by Pecos County than Somervell County and Tom Green County combined?
