Representing & Solving Adding & Subtracting Fractions
T.i.P.S.
Students will select tools (manipulatives including pattern blocks or pictorial models) to create and use representations to solve addition and subtraction problems. These problems will include fractions with equal denominators. The models lay a foundation for using the number line and properties of operations.Example
Paula wants to make a blanket for her new baby. The pattern calls for 2 1/3 yards of fabric and she only has 2/3 yards. How much fabric should she buy so she can make the blanket? Using pattern blocks and a number line model to justify your thinking.Hint
