Determining Decimals Using a Number Line

T.I.P.S.

Students must be able to look at a point marked on a number line and write the corresponding decimal number. This requires them to use representations to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas.

Example

As the leader of her group, Kim wants to make sure that everyone understands how to correctly determine the decimal number for the point marked below. If you were Kim, what number would you write, and how would you explain your choice to the rest of the students in the group?
