Relating Decimals to Fractions
T.I.P.S.
Students must be able to connect decimals to fractions. They must also communicate mathematical ideas, reasoning, and their implications using multiple representations, including symbols, diagrams, graphs, and language as appropriate.
Example
Hunter challenged Jet to write one and six hundredths in decimal form and fraction form. Jet wrote them as 1.6 and 1 6/100. Which part did Jet do correctly and which part did he do incorrectly? Use tenths grids and hundredths grids to explain your thinking and your solution.
