Finding the Area of a Rectangle Using Models
T.I.P.S.
Students should be able to cover a rectangle with square units such as color tiles, unit cubes, base-10 flats, square sticky notes of various sizes to find the area to the nearest whole unit. Students should recall from their experience with length that the smaller the square unit, the more square units needed and the larger the square unit, the fewer square units needed.
