T.I.P.S.

Lightbulb

Students will use their prior knowledge of numbers more than or less than a given number up to 1,200  and place value to compare numbers using comparative language, place value charts, number lines, and symbols.

Example

Explain your thinking using a place value model. a)  How do you know 499 is greater than 500? b)  How do you know 1,179 is less than 1,177? c)  How do you know 426, 152, 801 is not in order from greatest to least? d)  Pat and Faye have a problem. Pat thinks 42 tens is less than 390. Faye thinks 42 tens is greater than 390. Who is correct?
