Circumference & Area of Circles
T.i.P.S.
Students should understand the relationship between circumference, diameter, and radius and that π is a ratio of the circumference to the diameter. Student should be able to solve for any of these when given another. Students may be asked to determine the radius or diameter when given the circumference or area. Students should be able to solve equations for which the variable is not already known.
Example
Joe is viewing several coins in his coin collection to determine which ones he needs to buy and how he will fit them into the coin book. He determines that the radius of a quarter is 1.6 cm. What is the circumference of the quarter Joe is viewing in his coin collection?
