Similar Shape and Scale Drawings

Students should determine the dimensions of figures when given a scale and identify the scale factor given two figures. Using a given scale drawing, students should be able to recompose the figure into a different scale. Students understand that the lengths will change by a factor equal to the product of the magnitude of the two transformations.

Example

Building A in downtown Austin is 54 meters tall and casts a shadow 18 meters long. Building B next door is 6 meters tall. What is the length of the shadow casts by Building B?
