For this standard, students will be describing the data based on graphical representations. The types of graphic representations might include dot plots, stem-and-leaf plots, histograms, and box plots. Students need to practice with a variety of data in order to gain understanding of these concepts. Conversations about their findings will help students gain confidence and begin justifying their reasoning for the centerspread, and shape and what these them about the data.

Example

A 6th grade class was surveyed as to how many hours they watch TV per week. The results are shown in the box plot below.
