Graphing Using Ordered Pairs
T.i.P.S.
For students to be successful with this standard, they need to understand the coordinate plane and the origin, the ordered pair (0, 0). This is the point at which the x-axis and y-axis intersect. This origin is always the starting point for graphing ordered pairs.Students will also need to demonstrate their understanding by using all rational numbers. This includes fractions, decimals, whole numbers, as well as the positive and negative versions of those numbers. Using all four quadrants will determine the student’s ability to correctly identify the location of all rational numbers on the coordinate plane.
Example
You will need paper and pencil to complete first draw a coordinate plane a a piece of paper. Graph the ordered pair (-2 ½, 3) on the coordinate plane on your paper. In which quadrant is this ordered pair located? Justify your thinking. HintPossible SolutionDigital Tools
