Multiplying & Dividing Positive Rational Numbers

T.I.P.S.

In order for students to be successful with this standard, they must be able to multiply and divide any and all positive rational numbers, including decimals, fractions and percents. The factors, products, dividends, divisors and quotients should be presented in a variety of ways (ex. 1,250 x 0.6; 1,250 x 3/5; 1,250 x 60%) as should the solutions to these problems. In order to build fluency in completing these types of problem situations, students should always be asked to explain or justify their solutions.

Example

The distance between Austin and New Braunfels is 2/3 as long as the distance between Austin and San Antonio. If Austin is 108 miles from San Antonio, how far is Austin from New Braunfels? Hint
