In order for students to understand this standard, they must first know the definitions of whole numbers, integers, and rational numbers and have a firm grasp of these. This will help them classify numbers they are given, or demonstrate relationships between these types of numbers. For example, they must understand that whole numbers are ONLY positive values, integers can be whole numbers or have negative values, and rational includes whole number, integers and parts of a whole.Example
