Generating Numerical Expressions Using the Order of Operations

For this standard, there are many parts to understand. First, the student must know how to simplify or generate an equivalent expression. But, they must know how to do this using order of operations. They must also know how to do this using exponents, and even prime factorization, as well as expressions involving all three. These three concepts each take much practice for students to master. Students may just try to solve completely from left to right, giving them an incorrect solution. Instead, students must follow the order of operations, and within that apply the left to right concept. Also, simplifying does not change the value of an expression at any time.
