Personal Financial Literacy

In Fifth Grade

Fifth grade students defined income tax, payroll tax, sales, tax, and property tax, explained the differences between gross and net incomes, described how to balance a budget, identified different methods of payments, and a developed a system for keeping and using financial records.

In Sixth Grade

Sixth grade students will compare the differences between a checking account, a debit card, and a credit card, describe the purpose of and information found on a credit report, explain various pays to pay for college, compare annual salaries of several occupations requiring different levels of education, and the importance of establishing a positive credit history.

In Seventh Grade

Seventh grade students will calculate sales and income taxes, identify components of a personal budget, create and organize financial assets and liabilities, use a family budget estimator, calculate and compare simple and compound interest earnings, and analyze and compare monetary incentives such as coupons and rebates.
