Features & Costs of Checking Account & Debit Card

T.i.P.S.

Lightbulb

Students will need to compare features and costs of checking accounts and debit cards from various financial institutions. One of the easiest ways to do this is to gather brochures or online versions of them from multiple banks and credit unions. Asking the right questions is key in order for students to compare, but also encouraging them to justify their reasoning.

Example

Martha is 16 and just got her first job. She wants to keep her money in a checking account. The table below shows some features and fees at some local banks and credit unions.

Example

Based on this information, which option should Martha choose for her financial institution and why?
