Measurement

In Second Grade

Students in second grade determined solutions to a problem involving length, and found the length of an object to the nearest unit using meter sticks, measuring tapes, yardsticks, or rulers. The concept of area was first explored in second grade as well as the concept of telling time to the minute using analog and digital clocks.

In Third Grade

Next year in third grade, students will determine the perimeter of a polygon, add and subtract intervals of time, and determine the appropriate time and tools to use measurements of liquid volume (capacity) or weight.

In Fourth Grade

In fourth grade, students will solve problems related to length, intervals of time, liquid volumes, mass, and money as well as identify measurement sizes in metric and customary systems, and convert measurements within the same measurement system.
