Adding & Subtracting Intervals of Time in Minutes
T.I.P.S.
Students must be able to add and subtract amounts of time by using picture models such as an analog clock or number line.
Example
LaDanian’s trainer wants him to walk for 10 minutes, run for 15 minutes, walk for 10 minutes, and run for 20 minutes. Using the clock and number line below, how long will it take LaDanian to complete the session if he does not take any breaks?

3.7 Geometry and measurement. The student applies mathematical process standards to select appropriate units, strategies, and tools to solve problems involving customary and metric measurement. The student is expected to:(C) determine the solutions to problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes using pictorial models or tools such as a 15-minute event plus a 30-minute event equals 45 minutes
