Multiplication Facts using a Variety of Strategies

T.I.P.S.

Lightbulb

Students must be able to represent multiplication facts in a variety of ways which may include arrays, area models, and using a number line.

Example

For Joel’s math project, he decided to show multiplication facts for 6 (up to 6 x 6) in three different ways. Show on your paper how he could do show these facts using repeated addition, an area model, an array, and equal jumps on a number line.

Supporting Standard

3.4 Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to develop and use strategies and methods for whole number computations in order to solve problems with efficiency and accuracy. The student is expected to:

(E) represent multiplication facts by using a variety of approaches such as repeated addition, equal-sized groups, arrays, area models, equal jumps on a number line, and skip counting
