Representing Fractions of Halves Fourths & Eighths on a Number Line
T.I.P.S.
Students must be able to show how far fractional values of halves, fourths, and eighths are from zero on a number line.
Example
On the number line below, place a dot 5/8 of the distance between 0 and 1. Be sure to place appropriate tick marks on the line and explain how you know how many are needed and where they should be placed.

Supporting Standard 3.7 Geometry and measurement. The student applies mathematical process standards to select appropriate units, strategies, and tools to solve problems involving customary and metric measurement. The student is expected to:(A) represent fractions of halves, fourths, and eighths as distances from zero on a number line
